Thanks for the nice list of plugins. As we both use Thesis, it would be nice to customize the 404 pages more without any coding in the functions pages. I think that they will have a look at this in the near future.

This is a very timely post for me. We were just talking about what to do with our 404 pages and I came across this post... thanks! I think I am going to give the redirection plugin you are using a try.

Also... in your first paragraph at the end... you should change the "8" to a "5".
