Candy Crush maker King sees sour Wall Street debut


Candy crush saga cheats - King Digital, maker of the wildly popular Candy Crush video game, got a sour welcome on Wall Street Wednesday as shares tumbled some 15 percent in their first trading day.

King’s initial public offering (IPO) raised $500 million from the sale of 22.2 million shares, as the British company sought to capitalize on the popularity of Candy Crush Saga, which boasts some 97 million players worldwide.

The shares trading under the symbol “KING” opened lower than the offering price of $22.50, and ended the session on the New York Stock Exchange with a loss of 15.56 percent at $19.00.

The slump gives King a market value of $5.98 billion, below the optimistic estimate of $7.6 billion.

“This is not a surprise,” said Trip Chowdhry, analyst at Global Equities Research, who said King was seeking to cash in on a fad.

“This company is going to be the next Zynga unless they do something very different,” Chowdhry said, referring to the troubled social games maker.

“The investors who went today or yesterday were investors that bought the stocks when Candy Crushwas at peak. This is a peak, the only way they can go from here is down.”

The business makes money from players buying hints and other help to aid their climb through some 500 levels of the Tetris-like game.

But some analysts have questioned King’s staying power on the back of a game whose popularity could wane over time as users tire of it.

No more cash cow
The company’s follow-up games have not attained the same level of popularity.

IHS mobile analyst Jack Kent said the success of Candy Crush has made the company the leader in mobile games, but added that “Candy Crush Saga will not remain a permanent cash cow and King must prove it can repeat this success with new titles.”

The company says its games, which also include Farm Heroes and Pet Rescue, are installed on 600 million mobile devices, and played over 1.4 billion times a day more than one billion alone for Candy Crush.

Profits in the fourth quarter reached $159 million.

The King IPO comes amid a sharp uptick in new companies entering the market.

The US IPO count stood at 46 through March 11, the highest level for this time of year since 2007, according to Dealogic.

King’s arrival comes as investors are keen to buy into the next rising technology star but are wary of young companies being overvalued, especially in the world of games where popularity can be fleeting.

Some analysts also fear that the rush of IPOs may signal an overvalued market similar to the tech bubble that burst in the early 2000s.

Zynga, creator of the once-mighty “FarmVille” game, lost 40 percent of its value after entering the market in December 2011 with a valuation of $7 billion.

King said in a securities filing that it believes it has a “repeatable and scalable game development process that is unparalleled in our industry.”

“A key principle for King is that no individual game session should take more than a few minutes,” King Digital chief executive Riccardo Zacconi said in the filing.

“We call it bitesize brilliance the perfect way to spend three minutes of free time.”

friv – Almost immediately after PlayStation 4 launched in mid-November of 2013, it was clear that Sony was on to something. The company managed to sell a million PS4s in 24 hours, and the console was only out in North America.

It was an incredible victory for a company that previously announced over a million PS4 pre-orders that were presumed to be spread across multiple territories, from the US to Sony’s stronghold of Europe to its home country of Japan.

Suddenly, PlayStation 4 was a true force with its record-setting sales, though the writing was on the wall since the console’s reveal that February. Sony was doing everything right. It was doing what Greg and I pleaded for it to do for years on Podcast Beyond by focusing on the hardcore gamer.

Sure, PS4 can play Blu-rays and boot-up Netflix, but who cares? You buy a gaming console for games; everything else is icing on the cake. Sony’s message, especially when juxtaposed to Microsoft’s “TV, Sports, Call of Duty”-centric approach, has clearly won-out so far.

Fast-forward some six months after PlayStation 4′s launch, where saying that Sony has a commanding lead over Microsoft at this early point is an understatement. PlayStation 4 has sold over 7 million units. Each of those consoles is in consumers’ hands, attached to a television in their homes.

Microsoft, on the other hand, has shipped 5 million units, and perhaps half a million or more are still sitting on store shelves. PlayStation 4s are hard to find. There are more Xbox Ones than the market currently demands.

Two or three million consoles isn’t an insurmountable lead to overcome by any stretch of the imagination, but the fact that Sony has managed to sustain — and extend — its lead at a time when Xbox One’s ace in the hole, Titanfall, was launched, says a lot. Titanfall was March, 2014′s best-selling game in the US, and yet PlayStation 4 still outsold Xbox One.

Even more interesting is that PlayStation 4 isn’t selling well in Japan, Sony’s safe haven, meaning that the brand’s new-found strength rests solely in territories that may have felt more lukewarm about its predecessor. Xbox One hasn’t yet launched in Japan.

Crazier yet — and perhaps even confusingly — is the fact that PlayStation 4 has sold so well with very few must-have games. Infamous: Second Son was the very first post-release PS4 exclusive with real weight and consequence behind it, and while it sold a million copies right off the bat, PlayStation 4, at that point, was already soundly beating its competition.

It only took a few months for it to outsell Wii U and put itself comfortably in front of Xbox One, and it did so with Killzone, Resogun, and Knack, not God of War, Uncharted, and Gran Turismo. This illustrates that the winning equation Sony has stumbled upon with PlayStation 4 goes far, far deeper than meets the eye.

The Phoenix uses fire attacks to slow, damage and burn enemies over time. In a health vs. damage tradeoff, many of the Phoenix’s abilities drain vitality at the expense of high-powered attacks.

Players can also relive battles with the Phoenix, or any other hero for that matter, with the new Takeover Mode. In these matches, players can take control of characters at any point during any replay created after the new Bloom update.

From that point on, the game progresses as normal. As Takeovers are considered new matches, replays can be created from these as well, spawning a web of replay possibilities.

A mechanical addition will also accompany the New Bloom update: the ping ability. by holding ALT and selecting an ability, players can effectively mark said ability –– this will inform players when the power is recharged, or how long they have to wait until it is.

Business News – UK unemployment falls by 4,000 to 2.51 million

business opportunities – UK unemployment fell by 4,000 in the three months to June leaving 2.51 million out of work, says the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in July fell more sharply, down by 29,000 to 1.4 million.

The unemployment rate remains at 7.8%, still well above the 7% rate target set by the Bank of England.

The Bank’s governor, Mark Carney, says interest rates are unlikely to rise before that target is reached.

The ONS said the figures meant unemployment was “broadly unchanged” from the first three months of the year.

The number of people in work increased by 69,000 in the three months to June, up to 29.78 million. That is the highest level since records began in 1971.

That means 307,000 more people are in employment in the UK, compared with the same time last year.

The ONS’s David Freeman said two-thirds of this increase had been seen in UK nationals. A third of the employment increase came from non-UK nationals working in the UK.

Mixed picture

Analysts said the figures portrayed a mixed picture of the UK jobs market.

“Despite some good news in the latest jobs figures there are worrying signs about the underlying state of the UK jobs market,” said John Philpott, from the think tank, The Jobs Economist.

“The rise in employment is almost matched by an increase in the size of the workforce, which means the unemployment rate is unchanged at 7.8%.

“The headline jobs figures may continue to be broadly positive but one only has to dig a little deeper into the statistics to see that millions of people are continuing to be hit by a combination of lack of jobs and a ceaseless sharp fall in the real value of their pay.”


Youth unemployment, among those aged 16-24, increased by 15,000 to reach 973,000.

The number of people out of work for more than two years also rose by 10,000 to 474,000, the highest number in 16 years.

The ONS also released figures showing that wages grew by 1.1% over the past 12 months. When bonuses were included, wages grew by 2.1% – the highest annual growth rate since June 2011.

The small fall in unemployment comes a week after Mr Carney linked the Bank of England’s interest rate policy decisions to the unemployment rate for the first time.

He said the MPC will not consider raising interest rates until the unemployment rate falls below 7%, which he predicted would take about three years and the creation of 750,000 jobs.

Work and Pensions minister Steve Webb told the BBC that “things were starting to look much more positive”. He said the jobs figures added to a general picture of an economy that was starting to pick up.

But Labour’s shadow employment minister, Stephen Timms, said the reality was that for ordinary families things were getting “harder not easier”, highlighting the rise in part-time workers.

“Ministers just sound out of touch when they ignore the fact that the number of people who are working part-time because they cannot find a full-time job is at record levels,” he said. If you are searching for online business opportunities then look no further.

y8 games – Because Spider-Man apparently needs his own Infinity tie-in separate from Mighty Avengers, and because Superior Spider-Man has far more important matters to deal with, Superior Spider-Man Team-Up has been tapped to fill that role. Regular writer Chris Yost isn’t even on board for this story. This issue instead features guest writer Rob Rodi and artist Mike Del Mundo. With nothing really to add to Infinity or this series’ own unfolding conflicts, this is one tie-in that can be safely avoided.

Rodi’s script fits in between the beats of Mighty Avengers. Even as Spidey and his new allies battle Thanos’ invasion force, a hipster college girl (complete with Where’s Waldo attire) is transformed into a new electrically-charged heroine. Spidey finds himself with a potential new protege, but not if she lets her newfound abilities run away with her first.

It’s easy to sense the skeleton of a good story here. Rodi handles Otto’s voice well enough, as well as the team dynamic of the Mighty Avengers. But the Infinity half of the issue conflicts with the other half. There’s no reason this team-up needs to take place in the midst of Infinity.

Fulmina’s transformation is completely random and unexplained. I would have rather seen this story condensed to one issue and not burdened with the need to tie into an event that already has more than enough tie-ins. Fulmina needed more character development prior to her transformation.

Del Mundo was an interesting choice of artist, as he’s recently distinguished himself not for interior art, but for his striking, artistic cover images on X-Men Legacy. That strong sense of design translate reasonably well to a sequential format.

This issue carries a loose, watercolor style with frenetic figures. It’s not always well suited for dialogue-driven sequences, but Del Mundo certainly captures the fury and chaos of battle. You can play y8 right here if you like playing free online flash games.

Research Chemicals – Nanopore sensors have emerged as a label-free and amplification-free technique for measuring single molecules. First proposed in the mid-1990s, nanopore detection takes advantage of the ionic current modulations produced by the passage of target analytes through a single nanopore at a fixed applied potential.

Over the last 15 years, these nanoscale pores have been used to sequence DNA, to study covalent and non-covalent bonding interactions, to investigate biomolecular folding and unfolding, and for other applications.

A major issue in the application of nanopore sensors is the rapid transport of target analyte molecules through the nanopore. Current recording techniques do not always accurately detect these rapid events.

Therefore, researchers have looked for methods that slow molecular and ionic transport. Thus far, several strategies can improve the resolution and sensitivity of nanopore sensors including variation of the experimental conditions, use of a host compound, and modification of the analyte molecule and the nanopore sensor.

In this Account, we highlight our recent research efforts that have focused on applications of nanopore sensors including the differentiation of chiral molecules, the study of enzyme kinetics, and the determination of sample purity and composition. Then we summarize our efforts to regulate molecular transport.

We show that the introduction of various surface functional groups such as hydrophobic, aromatic, positively charged, and negatively charged residues in the nanopore interior, an increase in the ionic strength of the electrolyte solution, and the use of ionic liquid solutions as the electrolyte instead of inorganic salts may improve the resolution and sensitivity of nanopore stochastic sensors.
